The scientific team in RHM was established in 1963 and was one of the first in non-capital city museums. During the years its members were: S.R.A. Dimitar Nikolov, S.R.A. Christo Byukliev PhD, S.R.A. Velichka Koicheva, R.A Neycho Kunev, R.A. Krassimir Kalchev, Associate professor Svetla Dimitrova PhD, Stoyka Kairakova PhD.
They had significant publications in the fields in which they worked. They participated actively as authors in "Proceedings of the museums of South East Bulgaria" created in 1975. It consisted of printed scientific studies on the history and the nature from ancient times to present days, issued by the museums of Burgas, Sliven, Yambol, Stara Zagora and Haskovo District. Materials on the history of museum cause, museum event reviews, opening of new exhibitions and displays, conducting of scientific sessions and more were also included there. As editors there worked D. Nikolov, V. Koycheva, Ch. Buyukliev, Sv. Dimitrova, E. I. Ivanova, M. Kamisheva.
The members of the Scientific team were directors of important archaeological excavations in Stara Zagora and the region, which began in the late 50s. Thanks to them important conclusions about the settlement life around Stara Zagora Region from ancient times to the Bulgarian Renaissance were made. The scientific research work of the team resulted in publishing the collected materials in the funds, of production processes and the lifestyle of the population, the development of political, cultural and community transformations.
The members of the Scientific team were actively involved as organizers or co-organizers of various scientific forums; they prepared plans and thematic concepts of permanent and temporary exhibitions; wrote reviews; consulted graduate and PhD students; edited books and journals.
In 1998 the Scientific team was transformed into Scientific Team Department. Currently, its members are: Assoc. Prof. Evgenia I. Ivanova PhD, Senior Assist. Prof. Peter Kaltchev PhD, Mariana Minkova PhD, Assist. Prof. Maria Kamisheva.
