Early Christian Church and a bishop tomb (IV-VII century)

The site was explored in archaeological excavations carried out in 1979-80. It is located at the intersection of Gen. Stoletov Str. and D. Mihaylovski Str. (northward). There were found the remains of an early Christian church, which features four semi-domes, and several tombs. Only one of them is preserved under a protective cover. The tomb is inscribed with 6 crosses with dark red paint and texts in Greek.

Translation:

"Let this be my eternal resting place.

Here I want to live as I’ve wanted to. "(Psalm 131/132/14)

The inscription is written on two long walls – the north and the south wall of the tomb.

On the east wall:

"God have mercy"

On the west wall:

"God is with us."
